Vermiculite

Vermiculite is a natural mineral that has several applications in construction, horticulture, and industry. This mineral belongs to the group of phyllosilicates and has the property of expanding significantly when heated. This process is known as exfoliation, a procedure that allows for the production of an expanded and lightweight material. The colour of vermiculite depends on the origin of the mineral and varies between brown and beige.

Due to its versatile qualities, vermiculite has numerous applications as an eco-friendly material in various fields: 


Fire protection applications

Due to its refractory properties, vermiculite is often used in fire-resistant materials.


Packaging

Vermiculite is also used as packaging material, particularly for the packaging of fragile and hazardous products.


Horticulture

Vermiculite is used in horticulture as a soil amendment. It optimises soil aeration and allows for good water retention, which is beneficial for the growth of plants and crops.


Industry and construction

Due to its lightness and insulating properties, vermiculite is often added to building materials and is frequently used as an insulation material. VermiPrime is supplied as a semi-finished bulk product for use in its own products.

Production

NESTAAN's vermiculite is 100% Belgian and is produced in our modern, fully automated and fully equipped department in Blandain near Tournai. In our factory, which consists of high-tech, computer-controlled furnaces, the vermiculite is dusted and exfoliated at 1000°C.  

Certificates

For vermiculite, NESTAAN has RHP certification in addition to ISO 9001 and CE certifications. This label guarantees a safe, environmentally friendly, and high-quality product for horticulture.
